During the manufacture of a particular product, the choice of material should be based on one important criterion - deformation, namely, what is the density and hardness of the material.
Hardness of wood is a parameter that shows how well a tree resists one or another solid object trying to infiltrate it. Hardness is influenced by the density of timber, and it is not the same in all directions.
The density of wood (sometimes called the "specific gravity") is the ratio of the mass of the material itself to the measured volume. This parameter is one of the most important characteristics of the cubic meter of wood, when the selection of raw materials for the further production process and the calculation of structures take place
Based on these calculations, such weight groups are distinguished as:
Volumetric weight (average density of wood) is the ratio of the mass of a structured wet physical object to its volume. Specific gravity (basis or conditional density) is the ratio of the mass of dry wood to its volume. If the wood is completely dry, then the absolute density parameter cannot be calculated. Therefore, when tables with the density of timber are created, either the values of a separate humidity level or averaged are used. In terms of density, all wood material is divided into 3 large groups: soft, hard and very hard. Let's consider each of them separately.
Soft rock - a material with a density of less than 540 kg/m3. This group includes coniferous lumber: cedar, spruce, fir, pine, as well as a few deciduous ones, namely linden, alder, chestnut, aspen poplar.
Hard rocks - a material with a density of 550 to 740 kg/m3, mainly hardwoods: elm (karagach), mountain ash, apple tree, beech, ash, maple.
Very hard rocks - density value 750 gm/m3 li higher, also hardwoods: pistachio, dogwood, chestnut-leaved oak or Araxican, birch, hornbeam.
